Where whales go, life follows

Humpback whale (Megaptera novaeangliae) season in Cabo Verde

Every year, between February and May, humpback whales migrate to Cabo Verde from the North Atlantic to breed. This period is extremely sensitive for their social interactions, especially for newborns and their mothers. We would like to remind you that Cabo Verde has a Code of Conduct and regulations for whale and dolphin watching. (Official Bulletin No. 43, Section I of 13-05-2024)

Whales are some of nature's most powerful allies in the fight against climate change. By protecting whales, dolphins, and the ocean they help sustain, we can restore the balance of our planet. Whales fertilize ocean ecosystems, help phytoplankton grow (which produces much of the oxygen we breathe), and even help store carbon in the depths of the sea for centuries.

When whales thrive, the ocean thrives. And when the ocean thrives, we all thrive.
