Participatory monitoring of cetaceans, Santiago Island

When a good day turns perfect - or in the company of 'flying' dolphins!
Today, the team of #ECOCV joined artisanal fishers from Porto Mosquito for participatory monitoring survey and a super-pod of over 200 pantropical spotted dolphins (Stenella attenuata) was encountered in the zone of Baia do Inferno that makes part of the new marine protected area in Santiago island (#PNBIMA). Diversity of behaviours was recorded from acrobatic leaps to bow riding. The data was collected following the Code of Conduct for Cetacean observations in Cabo Verde (Rede Nacional: Golfinhos e Baleias de Cabo Verde)Participatory monitoring training is part of the activity of the project #raizazul funded by Darwin Initiative
