Exploring inshore waters of Santiago Island

What a superb day in the company of 20 short-finned pilot whales (Globicephala macrorhynchus) while exploring inshore waters and training partcipatory monitoring with local fishers in Darwin Initiative project site between Porto Mosquito and the bay Baia do Inferno. It was great to see at least six calves in the group. This species is highly prone to strandings, thus it is important to mark their occurrence and habitat.
