Exploration of the Baia do Inferno, Santiago Island

On the 3rd of February, ECOCV organised an exploratory trip to the Baia do Inferno (aka Baia Santa Clara) on the Island of Santiago. Our aim is to assess potential of community based ecotourism coupled with marine and coastal conservation in that area.

The bay is approximately 5 km in length. Within the bay, the depth is approximately 280 meters, but in the open sea it quickly drops to 1000 meters. From Ponta Geneanes (86 meters in height), the rocks gradually increase in altitude, reaching 562 meters at the Monte Angra.

The trip was highly successful and ended with a sighting of a group of 7-8 bottlenose dolphins just by the village of Porto Mosquito. Follow us on the updates of further project development.
